The Pirates of Penzance
Role: Mabel
Wildwood Park for the Arts | 2017
Summary
The Pirates of Penzance is a comic operetta that satirizes duty and social conventions through absurdity and wordplay. Frederic, mistakenly apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted pirates, is freed on his 21st birthday and resolves to live an honest life—only to fall in love with Mabel, daughter of the blustering Major-General Stanley. However, a technicality (Frederic was born on February 29) means he is still bound to the pirates until his “true” birthday, leading to a series of humorous misunderstandings, clever songs, and ultimately a joyful resolution.
